75 Mile Beach
Along the east coast of Fraser Island is the gorgeous 75 Mile Beach. Aptly named because it’s approximately 75 miles long, however due to the constant shifting of the sea and sand it varies almost every day.
This unique stretch is one of the only beaches in the world that is also a registered National Highway and has a designated speed limit of 80 kilometres per hour. The beach also acts as a landing strip for light aircrafts. From here, you can take off on a scenic flight to enjoy the wonderful views that Fraser Island offers from the sky.
Although the beach is not ideal for swimming due to dangerous currents and tiger sharks, it’s simply stunning and is home to several highlights such as Champagne Pools, the Maheno Shipwreck and Eli Creek.
The Maheno Shipwreck is the most famous of Fraser Island several wrecks, having drifted ashore in 1935. A former Trans-Tasman luxury liner and WW1 hospital ship, its rusted remains can be explored on the beach north of Happy Valley.
