Australia Zoo

Located 60 minutes from Brisbane on the beautiful Sunshine Coast is the world famous Australia Zoo.

The award-winning 100 acre zoo was made famous by the late Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin. An Australian wildlife expert, television personality and conservationist, Steve Irwin was a national icon and achieved worldwide fame for his wildlife documentaries, The Crocodile Hunter. He sadly died in a tragic stingray accident in 2006 while filming a documentary on the Great Barrier Reef.

Now managed by Terri Irwin, the widow of Steve Irwin, the zoo remains a living legacy of the late Crocodile Hunter. In the 5,000 seat Crocoseum, you can watch crocodiles launch a strike from the water’s edge. Steve wanted to provide visitors the opportunity to see crocodiles in clear water ponds in an effort to educate the public about how crocodiles live and behave in the wild.

Australia Zoo also offers several unique wildlife experiences. You can cuddle an adorable koala, hand-feed Asian Elephants, walk with a Sumatran Tiger and see the collection of some of Australia’s most dangerous reptiles and over 1200 animals. Spend the day exploring the many exhibits and seeing the daily shows.
