Great Barrier Reef
No trip to Queensland is complete without a trip to the Great Barrier Reef. This mind-blowing natural wonder is located in the Coral Sea, off the north coast of Australia and is one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Once you catch of glimpse of even just a fraction of this magnificent structure, the world’s largest single structure made by a living organism, it’s easy to understand why.
The vibrant reef is easily accessible with a day trip from Cairns. From here you can discover the underwater world and see the spectacular colours of the reef system come alive. Containing the world’s largest collection of coral reefs, over 2,900 individual reefs and 900 islands, it’s larger than the Great Wall of China and is even visible from space!
The stunning reef abounds with wildlife on land and sea making each visit unique. There’s just no telling what wildlife you’ll encounter from dugongs, sea turtles, dolphins, whales and more than 1500 species of fish. The Great Barrier Reef supports a diversity of life, six of the world's seven sea turtles can be found on the reef and it was recognised on the World Heritage list in 1981.
Situated in the outer reef is the fantastic Marine World, a purpose-built two-storey pontoon. Perfectly located in one of the most beautiful reef locations, here that you can spend the day snorkelling, scuba diving, in the underwater viewing observatory or simply relaxing on the sundeck. Be sure to join in on feeding time and witness the frenzy of large schools of Red Bass, Trevally and the Giant Maori Wrasse.
