The peaceful lakeside town of Te Anau is located on the boarder of the Fiordland National Park and the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage Area and is commonly known at the ‘gateway to the Fiords’. Lake Te Anau is the largest lake in the South Island and offers a pristine vista and great photo opportunities.
While best known for its fine restaurants the town also has on offer a range of different activities from kayaking and fishing on the lake to hiking along some of the towns famous walking tracks such as the Milford Track and Kepler Track. From the town, it is a scenic 2 hour drive to the famous Milford Sound and just 20 minutes to Lake Manapouri.
